Top Ten Anime Movies

There was a time when I was obsessed with watching Anime movies. I took a time off from watching series, and for a good two weeks I watched movie after movie, until I reverted back to anime series. Of the movies I have watched (for full list of movies see “the list”), here are my top ten:

10. Bleach: Memories of Nobody

At first, I didn’t want to add this into my top ten, because it was a movie derived from a series, and not made just as a movie. But fuck it, I did it  anyway, and my next entry follows suit too. This Bleach movie was good. I liked Senna, and thought that it would have been sick if they put her in the anime, because she’s actually interesting. They didn’t though, because the show is based on a manga, which obviously won’t have this character. The plot too, was sick-nasty and I don’t want to ruin it, but it was quite good.

9. Inuyasha: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass

This was the second Inuyasha movie and number 9 in my top ten. I was debating between putting this one up, or the “Sword of an Honorable Ruler”, which was another sick Inuyasha movie. Actually, they were all sick, but only this one made the top ten, because of the great pot and flow that this story has, not to mention somewhat of a BAM moment at the end (I saw it comming, but maybe others didn’t). Either way, I’ve seen this movie multiple times, and it’s great.

8.  Ghost in the Shell

This movie was quite good. It took place before the anime, but was based on the manga by Masamune Shirow, and had great visual effects, as most anime movies tend to have. The plot was awesome, and the technology that the creators made was incredible and ahead of its time (1995. I thought it had good fighting scenes and the characters were awesome.

7. Perfect Blue

This movie was really well made. It’s about a Japanese Pop Idol who looks to start acting. She does a rape scene, and this fucks with her mind. Soon there are murders around her work and she doesn’t know if she did it or what the fuck is going on. Anyway it is an awesome movie and the end is quite good.

6.  Kiki’s Delivery Service

I probably should have put this lower, but all in all it was still a good movie, and deserving of a top ten spot. Kiki’s Delivery Service was made by Hayao Miyazaki, who directed 3 of the next five movies on this list. He’s the man. This one is about a witch in training who must live by herself for a year, and she makes deliveries to get money and such. However, this movie mainly deals with growing up I guess, which I normally loathe as a movie plot, but this movie does good.

5. Spirited Away

Sometimes with movies it takes me a day or so to figure out if it was good. That was the case with this one. After I first saw it, I thought, “That was ok.” But I kept thinking about it for some reason, and realized that it was actually a really good movie. This movie was so good. It’s about a girl, Chihiro, who, with her parents, somehow get into this other world with all sorts of creatures and stuff. The parents turn into pigs when they start eating food and can’t stop (I fell this portrays pigs in bad light). It’s up to Chihiro to save them. The animation is some of the best I’ve seen.

4. Princess Mononoke

I believe that this was the highest grossing animated films ever in Japan, although I could be wrong (turns out it was the highest grossing movie until Titanic came out in Japan, which personally, I thought sucked, and was the third highest grossing anime movie next to Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle, which are all Miyazaki films). Basically, this movie was gross (get it?). This movie was awesome. The animation was exceptional and was only out done by the plot, characters, and everything else. Basically, this kid named Ashitaka has a cursed arm, which he got from saving his village, and in a show of gratitude, they banish him. This movie is pretty much man vs nature, but it’s still awesome, and could be number one on many other people’s lists.

3. Steamboy

I don’t know if I mentioned this, but when I watch an anime movie, I watch it dubbed, with some exceptions (One Piece, Naruto, anything that sounds gay dubbed). One of the reasons for this is because many movies feature famous actors, who don’t sound gay as voice actors. Some examples include, Patrick Stewart (who is in a few anime movies), Shia Leboooof, Uma Thurman, and Phil Hartman. This one has Patrick Stewart, who is the MAN, Anna Paquin, who’s name I know but face I don’t, and the guy who does Doc Ock in Spiderman 2. It centers around a kid named James Ray Steam (yea his last name is steam) whose grandfather works with, you guessed it, steam. Anyway he makes a ball of super concentrated steam and all sorts of stuff happens because of this invention. James dad, (presumed dead, but later revealed to be alive) wants its power (kinda like Doc Ock = same voice, wants a ball of power). Anyway, I’ gonna stop there, this movie is awesome, watch it. Oh yea, the animations is fuckin awesome.

2. Howl’s Moving Castle

Wow. What a great movie. Made by that director who’s nasty at directing. It has magic, one of the best character lineups ever. This one centers around Sophie, a young girl who pisses of some old witch, who in turn turns her into an old lady, which gives her a turn to say the least (see how I turned my words). She also is unable to tell anyone about the curse. She eventually moves into Howl’s Moving Castle (hence the name). Howl gets called into war by both sides, which creates problems etc. This movie is freakin awesome. Maybe I’ll watch it tonight. Maybe I won’t. Maybe go fuck yourself.

1. Akira

Let’s see I’ve seen this movie about 10 times. It’s awesome. Even Kanye West likes it, ever seen the video to Stronger? I mean it was pretty much scenes from Akira. This movie centers around two people, Kaneda, the leader of a biker gang, and Tetsuo, his friend, who is the member of the gang that everyone makes fun of…..sort of…..you know the type. Anyway, Tetsuo gets captured by some dudes from the military after he has a run in with an escaped subject, and he eventually gets these powers, and gets out of control. Needless to say its awesome. Also, this anime used like, a million more colors than any anime movie before it, which made it nasty visually. Unfortunately, Hollywood is going to fuck this movie up and make it live action.

Well, there you have it. I’m done with my shitty reviews of these awesome movies. For the full list of the movies I’ve seen, look at my page entitled “the list”, which is awesome. Here are some squiggles: ~~~~~~~~~ The End.
