Top Ten Female Manga Characters

There is ONE picture in here that is NSFW. Yeah, I screwed you like that, sorry.

I thought of this post the other day when I was catching up on Hajumete no Aku, and remarked via twitter (I’m so hip) that Kyouko was fucking awesome.!/Glothelegend/status/117077919242780674

Okay, so I actually said I loved her. Keep in mind, I don’t actually love characters from animations. They’re not real. Instead, I love their seiyuu (RK4EVER).

Okay, so I don’t actually love them either, I just like them a lot in a non-sexual, purely respect driven obsession. We’ve all been there though get over yourself. Oh, and sorry Mushy, no all caps this time.!/Mushyrulez/status/117077987777720321

Yeah, that’s write, people all over the internet are tweetin me. That’s just how it is when you’re hip and “with the times”. I’m no square, man.

At this point, it should be known that I stopped writing for an entire hour trying to find a show that had some square kind of pac man thing in is. If you followed me on twitter during this time, you might have been able to see my duress. WELL GUESS WHAT BITCHES!!!???? GLO THE FUCKING ASSHOLE LEGEND AIN’T A LEGEND FOR NO REASON!!!! I ALWAYS FIND MY SHIT!!!!

Without more time wasting, here’s the list (NOTE: If I’ve seen the anime as well, then the manga doesn’t count, these characters are from things where I have ONLY read the manga……you know, unless the manga was completely different from the anime):

10. Sakurako Tenmaku – Ai Kora

If you haven’t read Ai Kora, then shit man, fuck it.

Ai Kora is best categorized as a harem with a twist. In most harems, I feel like the main protagonist is a pussy, and somehow gets hot girls simply by being alive. Yet, since he never actually asked for any of the hot girls to like him, he usually shrugs them off because he’s an IDIOT. This is almost the opposite. Our main protagonist is the man, and goes to Tokyo with the hope to collect parts. That means, he wants a girl with the perfect legs, a girl with the perfect boobs, a girl with the perfect voice and so on and so forth.

Tenmaku happens to be the first girl he sees (therefore, the main girl), and keeper of the perfect eyes. I like eyes as well, but that’s not why she’s my favorite. It’s actually pretty simple (I’m a man with simple tastes). She’s a tsundere who completely second guesses herself. She treats Hachibei (main male lead) like SHIT and IMMEDIATELY feels bad for him afterward. It’s kinda funny to see, and always enjoyable to read.

Maybe it’s just me, but she feels different from other tsunderes. Maybe it’s her awesome eyes. Great manga either way I recommend it to all.

9. Adachi Hana – Yankee-kun to Megane-chan

Yankee kun FUCK yankee-kun-to-megane-chan-899684

I included 2 pictures just because I liked these two pictures.

If you haven’t read Yankee-kun to Megane-chan then I’ll tell you, it’s good, and the only reason I picked it up was because it had “megane” in the title.

Do I have a glasses fetish? Kinda. Sexual? No, I just really like hot girls in glasses anime and 3D alike. Luckily, the manga turned out pretty awesome (fell reaaaal far behind on it though).

Basically, we have Daichi, a high school delinquent. He’s taking a shit, when all of a sudden Adachi, the class president who clearly does not know what personal space is, pops her head over the stall to question him about some thing or another I forget. Anyway, as it turns out, Adachi was a former delinquent who basically ran shit all over town and killed everyone, and she’s trying to go straight by becoming the acting class rep (which she is). I just ruined the surprise for you, but Adachi is fucking awesome. She’s like……a nice, innocent class rep for a while, then she kills everyone and her only response was “Oops, I said I wasn’t going to get violent anymore.” I don’t know why I stopped reading this.

8. Akko – Girlfriends

I just finished reading this, so I had to update this list a bit, but Akko and Mari from Girlfriends are both awesome characters. In the end, I like Akko’s crazy, zaniness and incredibly outgoing/carefree/airhead in a non-Orihime way attitude. What did I write about her in my review? Oh yeah:

…Akko, who is kind of nuts sometimes, and has the ability to get flustered at times and jump to random conclusions…

She has awesome flusterability. I had to make that word up. But not only do I like her flusterability, but I also like how she got confessed to first, and THEN thought about it, and then the tables kind of flipped on her where she was put iin Mari’s shoes and had to be the one confessing. Fucking awesome manga yuri is the best shit.

7. Sakurako Amamiya – Psyren

Okay, can you say split-personality-of-awesomeness-with-glasses-and-samurai-swords-who-usually-has-a-cold-personality? If you can, then I don’t need to explain why Sakurako is fucking awesome.

6. Watari Kyouko – Hajimete no Aku

Well, glasses sure has been a theme here today. In all honestly, there’s not much special about Kyouko, except for her special circumstances. She’s got an evil society living in her home now in the form of cousins (from an actual like….take over the world evil society) and her cousin, Jiro, wants to operate on her body. But for the most part, I like her because she’s a normal girl, who is still fucking awesome.

This one is indeed tough to explain. She’s got awesome hair and glasses, yes, but other than that, not much else to bring to the table. She’s kind of cold toward Jiro (evil scientist), but nice other times, still, not tsundere at all. You gotta read this awesome piece of manga lore to really understand, and I’m going to leave it at that.

5. Veronica – Franken Fran

Honestly, I’m surprised this one got so low on the countdown. I originally expected Veronica to be somewhere around 7 or 8. But, here she is cracking the top five.

By now almost everyone should have at least read a few chapters of Franken Fran, but for those of you who don’t know, Franken Fran is about two main things: Irony, and surgeries that are fucking impossible. You see, Fran is a doctor who can perform any surgery (once, here head was stabbed off, and she performed surgery on herself while she had no head, because he body is augmented in insane ways), and so she does, sometimes on a whim, to people who think they’ll be happier with the surgery. Of course, most of the time the surgery ends up causing misfortune for the ones getting augmented, and their lives become ironically opposite of what they wanted. It’s fucking awesome.

As is such, Veronica is an augmentee of Fran’s mentor, Dr. Madaraki. What’s special about her? She fucking kills everyone.

She’s an assassin, but she still shows emotions like embarrassment and stuff, and that’s why she’ kicks ass. (the gore this girl creates….where’s a Franken Fran anime? Too gory? It’s not that bad come on!)

4. Emiru Ikuno – Nozoki Ana

I already wrote a WHOLE POST DEDICATED TO HER. My laziness thanks me that I don’t have to write anything more here.

3. Serika – Choku!

I once or twice wrote a post about Choku!, which I consider to be the funniest manga currently running. The only problem with it is it’s slow release pace. Really, really, slow.

It should be known that the humor in Choku! is NOT for everyone. The humor in Choku! appeals only to those who are FUCKING AWESOME. So don’t feel bad if you don’t like the humor in Choku!, it only means that you suck as a person.

The humor in Choku (and, well, EVERYTHING in Choku!) is made possible by Serika’s complete lack of knowledge about real life. She’s like……I don’t want to say a fucking moron, but she does……err……express her feelings differently?

She’s very blunt, has no censor or filter, has no facial expression, has never had a friend in her life, and is completely socially inept. But the best thing about her is her bloody noses. I’m gonna need another picture here.

There’s too many awesome picture of hilariousness to choose from from the second chapter alone. Do yourself a favor and read at least the first two chapters because they’re fucking awesome. There’s a reason she’s number 3 on the long list of female manga characters.

2. Pariya – Otoyomegatari

otoyomegatari-2587115 This is another one that is gonna be though to explain. Otoyomegatari is an excellent manga. The art is amazingly beautiful and it’s very easy to grasp a hold of the settings and how the world works for the characters.

Where most characters seem to be serious, focusing on marriages between families and other tasks at hand, we have Pariya.

She is not married. In fact, she has a bit of a problem in finding a suitor due to her temper and awkwardness around men. She’s almost tsundere like, except not fake and dumb (even though I like tsunderes). Just like the rest of the characters, there is a genuineness about her that makes her temper, tomboyish appeal, and tsundereish-but-not-really attitude realistic. And honestly, she’s batting 1000 right now. There hasn’t been a single frame that had her in it that I didn’t like her. Can’t really say that about anyone else on the list.

1. Urabe Mikoto – Mysterious Girlfriend X

No surprises here. At least not from me. Mysterious Girlfriend X is probably my favorite manga at the moment. It’s got it’s own weirdness: a girl and her boyfriend (both keeping their relationship a secret from everyone) taste each other’s drool (and are able to get the exact feelings that the other person is feeling at that moment) on a daily basis.

Urabe is especially awesome because of her:

A) Scissor Abilities: She keeps scissors tucked into her underwear (this isn’t an ecchi manga though) at all times. Whenever she gets riled up, she’ll pull them out and slice things like signs, houses, and small children (well, signs at least) into small bits in about 0.9 seconds.

B) Awesome Hair: I really like her hair…… End.

C) Slight Awkwardness: If the whole drool thing isn’t enough, Urabe is slightly awkward. Not in terms of speaking to people, but she almost never smiles, she’s got a cold stare, and doesn’t joke. That being said, she still gets pretty emotional, she just does a great job of hiding it. I guess I like those types of characters, huh? Anyway, here’s more pics:

If you haven’t read Mysterious Girlfriend X, you’re dumb. It should have a fucking anime. Especially considering half the shit that’s out there. Bullshit.

Well, that’s that! (I did not check nor proofread this piece of shit)

Choku! vs Pokey the Penguin

WARNING: I’m colliding two things that are REALLY REALLY FUNNY. May cause seizures.

It’s time to cross examine what I feel are two of the funniest comic things on the internet, nay, the world.

The first thing is something that I am linked to, and have talked about briefly here and there on Eye Sedso. I am of course referring to Pokey the Penguin. The second thing is something that I am not linked to, and have talked about briefly here and there on Eye Sedso.  I am of course referring to Choku, which is, at the moment, the funniest manga I am reading, although there are only 5 chapters out. So with this post, I am going to tell you why they are funny, and why they are similar:

Part One: Extreme Randomness and Total Retardation of Characters

This might actually be the only part of this post. I just perfectly summarized everything about these two comics in that one title. I wanted to add more parts than just one to this post….DAMN MY PERFECT EFFICIENCY! Anyway, both the characters and storylines for these tend to have a lot of retardedness, and a lot of randomness (more randomness for Pokey the Penguin. First, lets look at Choku!:

The preceding was taken from chapter 5 of Choku. The female character, Serika, is completely socially inept…even more than I am, and this leads to her being completely weird. Notice how she just does and says whatever she thinks is fine, and makes her own assumptions about what is going on. Not much of what she does makes any real sense to anyone except her. In fact, I’m pretty sure an actual person like her does not exist in real life, but it’s not just what she says that makes her retarded. It’s how she says them, which I will get into in a bit.

Now let’s talk about Pokey the Penguin. If you aren’t familiar with Pokey the Penguin, then SHAME on you. SHAAAMMEEEE. Pokey the Penguin is as funny as something you laugh at, and so you should read it. Here, below this text, I will show you my personal favorite Pokey the Penguin strip:

This is bad.

My sides! They split! So, how much of that made sense to you? Compared to most of the Pokey the Penguin strips, this made a lot of sense, and probably had the deepest storyline. This is like the Oscar winner of all the Pokey the Penguin Comics. It’s the one strip that is most like a movie. Notice how the characters all speak with contradictions and complete lack of…well…intellect. This is similar to Serika, in that she doesn’t have any intellect, because she’s never spoken to anyone in her life, and thus doesn’t know how. In this way, both Serika and Pokey the Penguin characters are the same: they lack intellect, and this causes them to say completely retarded shit, like:

Keep in mind that this is the first time these two characters have ever met.

Maybe it’s just me, but when I read the text, I picture the characters talking in the same way that really bad actors do. I picture them reading off of cue cards or something, and it makes it a lot funnier. Here are some bullets:

  • In both of these, characters talk as if reading off of cue cards (in my opinion). In Choku!, Serika talks completely retardedly, saying whatever is on her mind at the time, and whatever she thinks is correct/acceptable.
  • Likewise, the characters (all of them) in Pokey the Penguin all contradict themselves and speak randomly, making little to no sense, and sometimes baffling even me. Some of the strips literally make no sense….one is just a scribble I think.

Part Two: The Differences

Yay, I thought of a part 2! So, while both Serika and Pokey the Penguin have completely random, retarded speech and parts, there are key differences, the main one being that Serika is an odd character placed in a real-world scenerio. Everything around her is supposed to mirror real life. So other people realize that she’s odd, and that most of what she says is completely out there/wrong. In Pokey the Penguin, pretty much whatever they say is right. If Pokey says something that seems retarded, it can end up being true/happening. Heres a Pokey the Penguin strip chosen at random:

Now, this strip has absolutely no real storyline, no continuous plot, pretty much nothing but random ass lines that have no connectivity to each other. I mean, there is some plot, Pokey changes the hotel name to Hotel Pokey while the other penguin’s back is turned. But this goes from an art store, to and airplane to James Bond to Hawaiian dancing.. It’s comedy gold anyway you look at it. But it’s completely fine, because that’s the world that Pokey lives in. Everything is like that.

Serika on the other hand, is like a Pokey the Penguin character stuck in a real life scenario, or at least a scene that has more normalcy than she does. I mean, it’s almost like taking Pokey and sticking him in Happy Feet or something. He would make Penguins that talk and dance seem completely believable.

Hold on a second….what’s the point of this post?

What do you mean? I’m simply saying that I think Serika from Choku reminds me a lot of Pokey the Penguin.

I think you just made this to promote Pokey the Penguin, and Choku!, because you like them so much, and you feel like not a lot of people know about them, mainly Pokey. Am I right?

Manga Monday: I Might Need Help With An Addiction

I can’t remember the last time I watched anime. I’ve gotten behind on everything (including life in general), and I blame this all on manga. Shit, I even thought about skipping work to read manga (didn’t do it). Lately, I’ve been reading manga non-stop. And I’m not looking at overviews of shows, I’m literally just picking shows at random and reading them. Here’s what I’ve read this week:

Half and Half

I felt like experimenting with a one shot manga, and this is what I picked. Basically, two people (a guy and a girl) die right off the bat, but are given life again. There’s one catch: They can’t be far away from one another, and it lasts only 7 days, then someone dies. Needless to say they somehow fall in complete love after one God damn week, which is impossible unless you’re a complete loser who’s never had a meaningful relationship in your life (I can sometimes fall into this category). It was complete bullshit  and utterly retarded. I actually laughed when I finished reading it.

This was kind of dumb, but it was short, so it was fine. I felt it was too short to actually rate…I might give it a 2 or 3 maybe. It didn’t blow me away.

Confidential Confessions

I’m usually a guy who like completely retarded anime and manga. Usually, these manga have no relation to anything serious or realistic. However, that changed when I stumbled upon Confidential Confessions, which was probably the most hard hitting manga that I’ve read ever. Hard hitting meaning, “Holy Shit!”

So what the hell is so mind blowing about this? Well, I decidedly got drunk and then read it, and felt like it was a great manga (honestly, most of it kind of sucked) which seemed like a great idea at the time. I posted it up on twitter, and fangzhao took a shot at it. This is what he had to say:

“Jesus. I’m on the second chapter, and I feel like covering my wrists and neck. It’s really disturbing”

If you’re wondering why he felt like covering his wrists and neck, it’s probably because he didn’t want them to get cut, which, coupled with suicide, is pretty much the main theme of the first story.

That sounds quite depressing.

Oh it was for a time. But it ends on a lighter note (at least compared to the rest of it).

The rest of this manga was kind of dumb. There was a story about a boxer, a story about a high school prostitute, one about sexual harrasment….pretty much all serious issues. It wasn’t bad, but I’d probably give the whole thing a 3 as a whole, except the first story, which I really enjoyed for some reason, probably because I’ve always been kind of intrigued by death, mainly due to the mystery of it all, not because I’m some emo kid who’s weird…..I mean granted I’m kind of weird but I’d like to think in a good way…..most of the time in a good way…….like maybe half…..half the time good way…..anyway.

Baka and Boing

Replace the pictures of the girl with Red Sox posters and you'll have an idea of what my room used to look like.

So I was busy avoiding doing my work that’s due tomorrow by reading some Mahou Sensei Negima, when I decided to click on Baka and Boing, which seemed like it might be interesting. (my work includes coloring with crayons, writing an essay, and filling out a worksheet….[before you think my college courses are jokes, let me tell you that I’m going to have to do about 50 hours of out of class observational studies, and that’s just for 2 classes]) .

After 2 chapters 19 of the available 20+ chapters, my first impressions would be as follows:

It’s a lot like Half and Half, in that two people get get connected by a life force and have to live together, but are going to die in 6 months. Slightly different. In general, a lot better, and here’s why.

  • One, unlike Half and Half, where both people die, in this one, a kid named Taichi is a complete weirdo when it comes to his favorite idol, Kokoro (like his walls are covered with her pictures and he is obsessed….one of those weird ones….like an stalker almost, except he doesn’t stalk). Anyway, she falls off a building and lands on his head. She dies, he doesn’t. There souls get fused by a shinigami. Shit happens.

Honestly, it’s not really that good. I mean, I enjoyed it, but I can see myself getting bored of this real fast.

Akane-chan Overdrive

Again, more death. I think all of these manga have something to do with death (I love stuff where people die and then come back to life…kind like Yu Yu Hakusho). Anyway, this alternates between 2 stories, the first of which is about a dude named Amamiya who falls over and somehow half dies. Basically his soul somehow leaves him and gets pulled into the body of a hot girl in a coma. Misconceptions and more soul-switching ensues as he tries to get back to his original body. I found this one funny, although the ending (or complete lack there of) kind of made me grimace.

The second story includes a father who hypnotizes a kid to protect his daughter, but when he tries to touch her or get close to her, he experiences pain. I found this one moderately amusing as well, and it actually had an end kind of I think. I’d give the whole thing a 4.

This is the funniest manga ever. Too bad chapters come out at a pace slower than a constipated sloth.

Mahou Sensei Negima! & Ai Kora

I was on chapter……idk 60? Anyway, now I’m on 100. As for Ai Kora, I’m pretty much caught up.

A Cat is Fine Too

Curious of what the fuck people were talking about whenever they mention this, I read the manga, which is apparently hentai despite having no nudity or anything remotely ecchi besides the implied ending, which I found quite funny. I’d say it’s more strictly comedy (unless I read the wrong one or something). As I literally just stated, I found it funny, albeit slightly confusing (I feel like there might be a prequel or background story, but I don’t care enough to find out.

Mysterious Girlfriend

I literally just picked this up now. I didn’t start reading it. I chose it by complete random, read the summary, and decided I will probably like it.

I thought I read one or two more titles, but they were probably short ones and I forgot to write them down/forgot them completely, so whatever. If you’ve read these tell me what you think. If you haven’t write a completely random comment that has to do with boobs. Or don’t I don’t care.

An a side note, I have finally actually started Aria. The first episode was boring as fuck, but then I found the second episode to be much more enjoyable. My guess is that once more characters are introduced, this will become better and better.
