What is the Best Anime Since 2013?

At first I debated adding two question marks, or maybe even three question marks to the end of the title to really catch the eye.

But then I didn’t.

So anyway, just like the cat in The Cat Returns, I, Glothelegend, am returning, ready to vomit the hairballs which are my posts all over the internet, creating incredible amounts of vigorous apathy among people who may or may not know me.

Being gone for so long, I have no idea what anime even came out this past year or two, much less what is good, and I need help.

BIG TIME.

I now live with two of these fuckers and 3 other girls. Fucking HAIR ALL OVER THE GOD DAMN PLACE. DON'T DO IT.

I now live with two of these fuckers and 3 other girls. Fucking HAIR ALL OVER THE GOD DAMN PLACE. DON’T DO IT.

I’m looking for a few titles that really blasted the other titles. The cream of the crop. The big cheese. The cherry on top. The foam inside the vagina (that’s a saying right?)

I need a recommendation.

However, please know that I do have certain tastes. If you recommend me some crappy shoujo, I’m going to get annoyed and then do nothing about it anyway, so don’t recommend me some crappy shoujo. Here are some things that I consider to be a ‘plus’ in a given anime episode:

  • Girls who kick fucking ASS (I saw Kill la Kill [rather, I am halfway through, and it’s awesome])
  • Weird characters who don’t suck.
  • Rie Kugimiya (I’ve seen Kyousogiga or whatever it’s called [rather, I am halfway through, and it’s awesome])
  • Zany ass Shit (see above)
  • Powers and people with Powers
  • Emotionalesss female characters who manage to be funny due to their lack of emotion (I saw Neko Hentai thingy, rather, I am halfway through, and it’s awesome]).

Wow I have a lot of half finished shit. Maybe I should watch those…

Anyway, help a guy out. Manga is fine too, but I’d rather find my own manga. THRILL OF THE CHASE.

  1. Hataraku Maou-sama and Log Horizon sound like decent fits. Maybe Uchouten Kazoku if you want something zany but not in an overly-typical anime way. Maybe Railgun S and NouCome depending on if you’re into that kind of shlock. Maybe also give the first episode of Kotoura-san a shot too, to get them feels. And Chihayafuru if you’re not deathly allergic to sports-like anime.

    • Oh, and from 2014 it sounds like Akame ga Kill, No Game No Life fit the bill. Maybe also a couple new shows airing this season, like Amagi Brilliant Park and Gugure! Kokkuri-san, depending on how much you like the “emotionless girl” angle.

  2. This is a list of the series I think are worth watching which aired from 01.01.2013 till today, only completed. I’ve fucking wasted so much of my life completing 700 series that I need to find any justification for my nolifeness. Let’s say that I did it so that one day I could help someone find a new title worth watching. This is where your request came to the rescue so, well, here it goes:

    Standalone shows:
    1. Gintama the second movie. Absolute winner which also fulfills all your requirements. Hard to top that if you’ve ever liked some of Gintama before. Might be watched by newcomers.
    2. Kingdom – bear with crappy cgi of the first season, enjoy the effin good second season and then read the manga from the beginning. The story is goddamn worth it. Also, it has Rie Kugimiya as a bonus.
    3. Hataraku Maou-sama – I’ve watched it twice, had thrice the fun.
    4. Non Non Biyori – Renge-chan FTW.
    5. The Eccentric Family – definitely weird people (?) with lots of fun and some feels.
    6. Suisei no Gargantia – quite pleasant Urobutcher sci-fi. Not the highest grade of fun, but fun nonetheless.
    7. Valvrave – It’s over 666 and then there is possibility.
    8. Fate/kaleid liner Prism Ilya – No Rie, Fate Fanclub clard recommended for the most fun.
    9. Kick-Heart – More Giga than Kyousougiga.
    10. Attack on Titan – I actually forgot about this one. Wonder why?
    11. Sasami-san Ganbaranai! / Kyoukai no Kanata – if you prefer SHAFT choose the former, KyoAni -the latter.
    12. Knights of Sidonia – try to bear with CGI and you shall be awarded.
    13. Watamote – definitely not shoujo. Don’t watch if you are NEET as it doesn’t hold back punches. Funny & depressing.

    Sequels of pre-2013 series:
    1. Monogatari Second Season – my personal top of the top.
    2. Kara no Kyoukai – any movie, all are good but together they are god-tier.
    3. Ghost in the Shell Arise – I liked it, some didn’t. I’m a fan of the franchise so I’m biased though.
    4. Railgun/Index – don’t know which aired when and frankly whatever. Recommended out of loyalty to Misaka.
    5. Haganai Next – weird people have powers of moe being antisocial. Might somehow fulfill your requirements.
    6. High-school DxD – T&A in large quantitties. Also, girls kick ass (while nude).

    Bonus instant dopamine sho(r)ts:
    1. Teekyuu
    2. Namiuchigawa no Muromi-san
    3. Yondemasu Yo, Azazel-san

Mangadump that I could recommend regardless of when it started (not many series get finishied properly in only one year):
    – Kingdom
    – Onepunch-man (the re-drawn version)
    – Kangoku Gakuen
    – Hoshi no Samidare
    – Sengoku Youko
    – Hinamatsuri
    – Yotsubato!
    – Binbougami-ga
    – The Voynich Hotel
    – Parasyte (its anime is airing right now, both versions are fabulous)
    – Medaka Box
    – Onani Master Kurosawa (I recommend it to everyone and up till now everyone was grateful)

…and goddamn many more. Hope it helps. If you ever want to ask something, yaay, feel free to it.

  3. I have a lot to catch up on as well but here are my favorites from the past year:

HITSUGI NO CHAIKA – A strange girl recruits two ex-ninjas to help her steal body parts. A fantasy road trip that reminds me of Baccano, not in how it tells its story (there are no time shenanigans in Chiaka), but in how gosh-darn fun it is. The characters are enjoyable, the action is slick and tactical, and the humor zings (even when it’s about half-sisters wanting to bone their brothers!). It’s also not afraid to splash blood around.

    Exploding unicorns!

TONARI NO SEKI KUN: Rumi is a normal highschool girl who just wants to get good grades and stay out of trouble. Seki is a weirdo who sits next to her in class and doesn’t care about any of that. Instead he’d rather enact touching family drama’s with his transformer toys, or bring a million erasers to school and use them as dominoes. How is it he never gets caught, and why does Rumi always get caught up in his insanity? The first episode is a little weak, but after that it’s all gold.

LOVE LAB: A bunch of students at an all-girls school form a club to figure out how to pick up boys. The first episode makes you think it’s a yuri show, but it’s not. It IS really funny, however.

    Don’t lie to kids:

ALDNOAH.ZERO: You remember the Battlestar Galactica reboot? This is kind of like a similar reboot of the original Gundam. The show begins with Space Fascists vaporising New Orleans, and things only get worse for Terra after that, because here there is no convenient super robot for the good guys to use. No, this time the BAD GUYS are the ones with the Gundams, and the only way to defeat them is to be smart and very, very lucky. The pacing is tight, the action is intense, lots of people die, and the ending is one you will never forget.

  4. Space Dandy
